Being
able to make a difference is one of life’s most rewarding gifts. That
is the best way I can describe my feelings about your support for the
work of the Parkinson Research Foundation. This is particularly true in
these difficult financial times when personal sacrifice shines like a
beacon of bright light.
Momentum is very important during the course of striving to meet
difficult challenges. Counting on you to keep that momentum alive is
one of my fondest dreams.
The research we are funding covers the following areas: gene therapy,
immunization strategies, exercise and physical therapy, occupational
therapy, wellness strategies, social-psychological interventions, and
many other disciplines that will lead to more effective treatments and
ultimately a cure for this terrible disease.
I would like to address a question that many of you have raised. “Why
are there numerous Parkinson organizations?” My simple response to
this question, having been involved with Parkinson organizations for
more than thirty-five years, is, BRAVO! Each organization approaches
the many issues involved in treating and caring for patients and the
areas of research to support, differently. This attracts more minds
and innovative ideas working to solve these complex problems.
In this joyous holiday season, all of us at the Parkinson Research
Foundation wish all persons and organizations that are striving to help
those millions of sufferers in the Parkinson community the best of
success with their missions. And I wish all of you a happy, healthy,
and prosperous season and new year. |
