PRF Falls Study program
As of November 1, 2008, PRF is conducting an anecdotal study of therapy results designed to
determine the effects of rehabilitation therapy on certain conditions
related to Parkinsonism.
The study will anonymously look at the results of physical, occupational
and speech therapies on as large a population of patients as possible.
The therapies will be conducted strictly based on the patients own
individual needs and conditions but when treatment follows the protocol
guidelines results will be compared.
Protocol guidelines call for patients treated 5 times per week for the first 2
weeks of therapy. Measurements will be made at the initial evaluation
and after the first 10 treatment sessions in 1 key area per discipline.
For Speech therapies, voice volume will be measured. These measurements
will be done with a voice meter and maximum sustained volume will be
compared pre and post 10 sessions.
Occupational therapists will measure abilities in the “9 hole peg test”. Results
will be timed and compared pre and post 10 sessions.
Physical therapists will compare pre and post 10 sessions in a timed “get up and go” test.
All of the results will be reviewed by Physician “Sub Investigators” hired by PRF and their finding will be reported to PRF.
PRF will report its combined findings at regular intervals as the number of study subjects becomes statistically significant.
