Bladder spasms
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
My mother has had parkinsons for several years now. She is 85. It mainly involves her legs. There is no trembling, but she canot walk alone. She is on Sinemet. She has been having bladder spasms for a couple of years now. She says they are excrutiating. She has a urologist, who has prescribed a host of medications but none have worked. They tried a nasal spray recently and Elavil, which neither helped. She has gone to the continence center where she gets electrostimulation for her bladder. The first time she went was a couple of years ago where they did about 10 treatments and this seemed to help for a while. In the last year she has probably gone through eight treatments and is still having the same problem. She says she doesn't know how much more of this she can take. What else can we do? Are there other alternatives for the bladder spasms? Actually this urologist's office and continence center is located in the hospital.

Blank Stare
Tuesday, October 20, 2009
What makes a parkinson patient stare blankly. Mother has the dementia with her parkinsons. She may be alright one minute but the next minute she will get a glassy look on her face and stare. Her face will seem to get puffy and one of her eyes closes slightly. They don't think she is having strokes because she knows everything. When this happens, she is aware of her surroundings. We have asked her neurologist about this and no one seems to have an answer. They said to change her Xanax from morning to lunch. This has not helped. We are not getting much help from her doctors. She doesn't like her neurologist because she made a comment in front of her that she had done all she could do. We are trying to find someone else to take her to. Could this be medication causing this, or could this just be part of the dementia. Her mind is excellent. She can remember when she was a little girl.

Dear Dr.
Do you have an opinion on the benefits of creatine for PD patients?
Off periods

My major problem with my P.D. at this time ,is
that I can't predict when I will get a bad spell. I get these around
the times I take my pills. Some days I will have no bad spells and
others days they are awful. I sweat and almost become a cripple. When I
am out and this happens ,people think I am drunk.I have not noticed
others in this condition.
