Deep Brain Stimulation
Saturday, January 30, 2010
When my husband takes the Sinemet his balance is even worse than usual. He is on Coumadin and I don't want him to lose his balance and fall. Some days are worse than others - I am taking his off of the Sinemet (100/25) and want to know if he is a candidate for the Deep Brain Stimulation. He does not have tremors - but a very bad balance problem, the shuffling gaite, low blood pressure and some confusion. How do I get the necessary information we need to make this type of decision. We saw a neurologist yesterday and she said to come back in May! We are scheduled to see Parkinson's Neurologist in late March - but my husband has already fallen and broken his left hip and we need help before March 25th.

Autopsy for parkinson
Saturday, January 23, 2010
I once heard that the only way to truly diagnose Parksinson is for an autopsy. I'm caregiver for my 92 yr old mother who was diagnosed 5 yrs ago though we suspected it for quite awhile before. Her brother and 2 sisters all had parkinson diagnosed but none had an autopsy. We would like to be prepared to request one for our mom if it will help our children and cousins' children know if they are high candidates for parkinsons. How does one arrange such autoposy or won't it be helpful?

Unfortunately, we were not able to ask questions about the opinions of Dr. Sanchez-Ramos regarding the future of surgery for PD.I understand his talk was entiled the Future of PD, but I'd like to know how long he thinks it will be before surgery will not be required to treat PD.
Azilect for a Vegetarian
Sunday, January 03, 2010
I have read that Azilect can be used as a first medication for recently diagnosed PD. My problem is as a vegetarian the warnings have me concerned. My diet consists mostly of soy products and cheese, which may cause blood pressure problems. Your thoughts, please.
Azilect for neuroprotection
Friday, January 01, 2010
Are you recommending Azilect in PD patients who do not yet need medication for symptom control? I understand the recent study was somewhat controversial. Seems to me, though, that it would make sense to take the Rx, hoping that the neuroprotection may occur. I welcome your thoughts.
